ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION AMONG STUDENTS OF TURKMENISTAN ORGANIZED ON THE OCCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY, 10 DECEMBER

Ashgabat, 10 December 2021: On 30 November 2021, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan together with the UNDP in Turkmenistan announced an Essay writing competition dedicated to the International Human Rights Day, 10 December.

The competition involved students of the country studying international law from various universities and institutes of Turkmenistan, who presented their written works on such topics as: the role of international human rights law, international and national mechanisms for the protection of human rights, international cooperation in the field of human rights and implementation of international human rights law at the national level.

The jury of the contest consisted of the representatives of the Ministries and entities of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Adalat, Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli, Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International University for Humanities and Development, Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the UNDP.

According to the results of the competition, the jury announced the winners.

1st place award goes to the following students:

Aybolek Amangeldiyeva (Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan)

Chary Rahmanov (Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli)

Diyar Yhtyyarov (Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli)

2nd place award goes to the following students:

Ogulbibi Mammetgurbanova (Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli)

Hatyja Dovletnazarova (Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan)

3rd place award goes to the following students:

Jahan Oraeva (Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan)

Tofe Hoshanova (Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan)

Special award for the most creative written works goes to:

Serdar Jepbarov (International University for the Humanities and Development)

Ayjan Matiyeva (Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli)

All winners were awarded with certificates and prizes on 10 December 2021 in the UN Building.

“I hope this contest will contribute to the development of research and creative skills of future diplomats, politicians, and lawyers of the country to promote the human rights agenda in the country and beyond” – said Ms. Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan.

The contest was organized in the framework of the three-year UNDP project: "Assistance in the Implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the area of human rights for 2021-2025" implemented jointly with the Institute of State, Law, and Democracy of Turkmenistan and aimed at raising knowledge on human rights among students of Turkmenistan.
