On June 25, 2024, the 16th meeting of the «Turkmenistan – European Union» Human Rights Dialogue was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Olof Skoog opened the meeting.
At the meeting, prospects for interaction and expansion of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the field of humanitarian law and human rights were discussed.
An exchange of views took place in issues such as improving civil society, the rule of law and judicial reform, as well as cooperation in the field of education, healthcare, gender equality, and the protection of the rights of children and persons with disabilities.
During the Dialogue, the parties discussed the implementation of the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, with a focus on the continuous improvement the law enforcement system and increasing accountability in the field of human rights, and touched upon the topic of the activities of the Ombudsman’s institution this year.
During the negotiations, the parties considered issues of implementing joint projects between Turkmenistan and the EU in the near future.
