On July 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the fulfillment of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh, ministries and sectoral departments, and public organizations of the country.
The agenda included the results of the activities of this structure for the first half of this year, identified the priority tasks for the future and priority areas of cooperation with specialized UN agencies, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat and other international organizations.
Among the main directions of the Commission's work are the analysis of existing regulatory legal acts, the development of draft national programs and action plans, as well as monitoring the implementation of the country's international obligations in the field of political, economic, social and cultural rights and freedoms of people. Particular attention is paid to the preparation of proposals for the harmonization of legislation with the generally accepted norms of international law.
As noted, the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, and others are being implemented as an example of productive partnership with international organizations.
Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of the activities outlined in the National Action Plan for the Implementation of Children's Rights in Turkmenistan for the period 2018-2022. This document is based on the principles and provisions of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, the Law of Turkmenistan "On State Guarantees of the Rights of the Child", the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other UN agreements in the interests of children, to which our country is a party.
In this regard, the speakers emphasized that caring for the young citizens of the country is a key aspect of the state policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in accordance with which the closest attention is paid to the upbringing of a harmoniously developed, physically healthy, highly educated young generation, creating the best living conditions for children.
Further steps on the implementation of the joint action plan of the Interdepartmental Commission and the Representations of the United Nations (UN) in Turkmenistan were also the subject of discussion.
A number of other issues were also considered at the meeting.
