On July 4, 2021, the President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir arrived to Ashgabat on a working visit.
On the 5th of July, Mr. Volkan Bozkir was received by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
During the meeting that was held in a friendly and trustful atmosphere, the parties exchanged views on cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations on the most pressing issues of regional and global agenda. The interrelationship and the necessity of simultaneous development of all the key spheres of life and production for the attainment of the sustainable development goals were noted. In this respect, the concrete steps taken by Turkmenistan on the national, regional and international level were specified. The importance of the state plans and programmes in the area of maintaining gender equality, food security, social development, digitalization, struggle with the climate change and others was underlined.
The head of state also noted that the country pays special attention to practical work within the framework of long-term programs to strengthen the status of women and gender equality in all forms of social activity at the national and regional levels.
In particular, Turkmenistan has launched the implementation of the National five-year Action Plan for Gender Equality for 2021-2025. As part of this document, the United Nations and its specialized agencies, in particular UN Women, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNDP and the Children's Fund, have undertaken a number of important activities in the areas of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The United Nations and its specialized agencies highly appreciate the foresight and responsible approach of Turkmenistan to issues in all areas of cooperation and intend to closely cooperate in the future.
At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir expressed confidence that long-term bilateral cooperation will continue successfully. This collaboration aims to promote global prosperity and development, as well as the achievement of sustainable development goals.
