MEETING OF THE INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS OF TURKMENISTAN IN THE AREA OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

MEETING OF THE INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS OF TURKMENISTAN IN THE AREA OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

On August 21, 2021, a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on the implementation of international obligations of Turkmenistan in the area of human rights and international humanitarian law was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by representatives of Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, a number of ministries and sectoral departments, as well as public organizations.

The agenda included priority tasks for the further strengthening of humanitarian cooperation, primarily with the United Nations and its major divisions, forms and mechanisms for the implementation of national plans and programs, including joint action plans.

The speakers also noted the importance of the measures being taken to further democratize the country and strengthen the legal foundations of the state. In this regard, it was emphasized that in the process of implementing national programs and plans, constructive relations with international organizations are acquiring a broader format and effective character.

Guided by the initiatives put forward by the leader of the nation, the participants discussed the priority aspects of further work to improve the activities of state institutions and public associations in the field of ensuring human rights and the implementation of international humanitarian law in the legislation of Turkmenistan, the introduction of advanced law enforcement practice.

Furthermore, specific measures were identified to successfully address the challenges, including those related to the implementation of joint action plans of the Interdepartmental Commission and the United Nations Office in Turkmenistan and its structural divisions.

Other issues were also considered at the meeting, on which appropriate decisions were made.
