On December 23, 2024, the “Archabil” Hotel hosted an informational and practical seminar on the theme: “Current Issues of the Development and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law”, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross and dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The workshop was held in accordance with the cooperation plan between Turkmenistan and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for 2024.
The workshop was attended by the Head of Mission of the ICRC Mihail Rahmanov and international experts of the ICRC, as well as representatives of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Adalat, judicial bodies, prosecutor’s offices, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, the National Society of the Red Crescent of Turkmenistan. Professors of the country’s universities were also invited.

The participants of the workshop were familiarized with the activities of the of Turkmenistan’s Interdepartmental Commission on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law on the implementation of IHL at the national level. In addition, the issues related to the activities of the Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan to promote international humanitarian law were reviewed. The participants of the workshop discussed the prospects for joint work to promote the norms of IHL.
